BTCS (NASDAQ:BTCS) delivers shareholders favorable 38% return over 1 year, surging 22% in the last week alone
It hasn't been the best quarter for BTCS Inc. (NASDAQ:BTCS) shareholders, since the share price has fallen 23% in that time. While that might be a setback, it doesn't negate the nice returns received over the last twelve months. In that time we've seen the stock easily surpass the market return, with a gain of 38%.
After a strong gain in the past week, it's worth seeing if longer term returns have been driven by improving fundamentals.
BTCS wasn't profitable in the last twelve months, it is unlikely we'll see a strong correlation between its share price and its earnings per share (EPS). Arguably revenue is our next best option. Shareholders of unprofitable companies usually desire strong revenue growth. That's because fast revenue growth can be easily extrapolated to forecast profits, often of considerable size.
In the last year BTCS saw its revenue grow by 204%. That's well above most other pre-profit companies. While the share price gain of 38% over twelve months is pretty tasty, you might argue it doesn't fully reflect the strong revenue growth. If that's the case, now might be the time to take a close look at BTCS. Human beings have trouble conceptualizing (and valuing) exponential growth. Is that what we're seeing here?

A Different Perspective
It's good to see that BTCS has rewarded shareholders with a total shareholder return of 38% in the last twelve months. Notably the five-year annualised TSR loss of 6% per year compares very unfavourably with the recent share price performance. This makes us a little wary, but the business might have turned around its fortunes. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important.
