Insiders At Agilysys Sold US$2.3m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness
Over the past year, many Agilysys, Inc. (NASDAQ:AGYS) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more beneficial than knowing whether they are selling, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Agilysys
The Independent Director, Melvin Keating, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$1.3m worth of shares at a price of US$123 each. So what is clear is that an insider saw fit to sell at around the current price of US$114. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign.

Does Agilysys Boast High Insider Ownership?
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It's great to see that Agilysys insiders own 5.3% of the company, worth about US$164m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
What Might The Insider Transactions At Agilysys Tell Us?
Insiders sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. Looking to the last twelve months, our data doesn't show any insider buying. It is good to see high insider ownership, but the insider selling leaves us cautious.
