If EPS Growth Is Important To You, Lam Research (NASDAQ:LRCX) Presents An Opportunity
It's common for many investors, especially those who are inexperienced, to buy shares in companies with a good story even if these companies are loss-making. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else investors will move on and the company will wither away.
So if this idea of high risk and high reward doesn't suit, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Lam Research (NASDAQ:LRCX). While profit isn't the sole metric that should be considered when investing, it's worth recognising businesses that can consistently produce it.

Lam Research's Earnings Per Share Are Growing
If you believe that markets are even vaguely efficient, then over the long term you'd expect a company's share price to follow its earnings per share (EPS) outcomes. So it makes sense that experienced investors pay close attention to company EPS when undertaking investment research. Impressively, Lam Research has grown EPS by 36% per year, compound, in the last three years. If growth like this continues on into the future, then shareholders will have plenty to smile about.
It's often helpful to take a look at earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. EBIT margins for Lam Research remained fairly unchanged over the last year, however the company should be pleased to report its revenue growth for the period of 13% to US$19b. Are Lam Research Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
We would not expect to see insiders owning a large percentage of a US$82b company like Lam Research. But we are reassured by the fact they have invested in the company. Notably, they have an enviable stake in the company, worth US$276m. This comes in at 0.3% of shares in the company, which is a fair amount of a business of this size. So despite their percentage holding being low, company management still have plenty of reasons to deliver the best outcomes for investors.
Is Lam Research Worth Keeping An Eye On?
For growth investors, Lam Research's raw rate of earnings growth is a beacon in the night. Further, the high level of insider ownership is impressive and suggests that the management appreciates the EPS growth and has faith in Lam Research's continuing strength. On the balance of its merits, solid EPS growth and company insiders who are aligned with the shareholders would indicate a business that is worthy of further research.
