Last week, Ichor Holdings, Ltd.'s (NASDAQ:ICHR) stock jumped 17%, but insiders who sold US$2.5m worth of stock in over the past year are likely to be in a better position. Selling at an average price of US$45.37, which is higher than the current price, may have been the wisest decision for these insiders as their investment would have been worth less now than when they sold.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Ichor Holdings

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Chairman, Thomas Rohrs, sold US$2.3m worth of shares at a price of US$45.37 per share. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$31.86. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels.

Does Ichor Holdings Boast High Insider Ownership?

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Insiders own 1.4% of Ichor Holdings shares, worth about US$15m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
