Many Still Looking Away From Compass, Inc. (NYSE:COMP)

With a price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.2x Compass, Inc. Compass hasn't been tracking well recently as its declining revenue compares poorly to other companies, which have seen some growth in their revenues on average. Perhaps the P/S remains low as investors think the prospects of strong revenue growth aren't on the horizon. What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The Low P/S?

There's an inherent assumption that a company should underperform the industry for P/S ratios like Compass' to be considered reasonable.

Taking a look back first, the company's revenue growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 25%. Even so, admirably revenue has lifted 32% in aggregate from three years ago, notwithstanding the last 12 months. Accordingly, while they would have preferred to keep the run going, shareholders would definitely welcome the medium-term rates of revenue growth.

Turning to the outlook, the next three years should generate growth of 12% per annum as estimated by the six analysts watching the company. That's shaping up to be similar to the 10% per year growth forecast for the broader industry.

With this in consideration, we find it intriguing that Compass' P/S is lagging behind its industry peers. It may be that most investors are not convinced the company can achieve future growth expectations.
