Insiders who acquired US$831.7k worth of Quanterix Corporation's (NASDAQ:QTRX) stock at an average price of US$12.60 in the past 12 months may be dismayed by the recent 12% price decline. Insiders buy with the expectation to see their investments rise in value over a period of time. However, recent losses have rendered their above investment worth US$467.9k which is not ideal.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Quanterix Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Co-Founder David Walt for US$625k worth of shares, at about US$13.29 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of US$7.09. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.

While Quanterix insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Quanterix insiders own about US$19m worth of shares. That equates to 6.4% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
