Insiders At MiMedx Group Sold US$659k In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness
A number of MiMedx Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:MDXG) insiders sold their shares in the last year, which may have raised concerns among investors. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more beneficial than knowing whether they are selling, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

MiMedx Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
The insider, Ricci Whitlow, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$250k worth of shares at a price of US$8.06 each. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$8.54, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. This single sale was just 20% of Ricci Whitlow's stake.

Insider Ownership
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. MiMedx Group insiders own about US$17m worth of shares. That equates to 1.3% of the company. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
