Market Might Still Lack Some Conviction On WiMi Hologram Cloud Inc. (NASDAQ:WIMI) Even After 68% Share Price Boost

The WiMi Hologram Cloud Inc. (NASDAQ:WIMI) share price has done very well over the last month, posting an excellent gain of 68%. Not all shareholders will be feeling jubilant, since the share price is still down a very disappointing 13% in the last twelve months.

Although its price has surged higher, it's still not a stretch to say that WiMi Hologram Cloud's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 1.3x right now seems quite "middle-of-the-road" compared to the Media industry in the United States, where the median P/S ratio is around 0.9x. However, investors might be overlooking a clear opportunity or potential setback if there is no rational basis for the P/S.

What Does WiMi Hologram Cloud's Recent Performance Look Like?

For instance, WiMi Hologram Cloud's receding revenue in recent times would have to be some food for thought. One possibility is that the P/S is moderate because investors think the company might still do enough to be in line with the broader industry in the near future. If not, then existing shareholders may be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.

Although there are no analyst estimates available for WiMi Hologram Cloud, take a look at this free data-rich visualisation to see how the company stacks up on earnings, revenue and cash flow.

How Is WiMi Hologram Cloud's Revenue Growth Trending?

In order to justify its P/S ratio, WiMi Hologram Cloud would need to produce growth that's similar to the industry.

Taking a look back first, the company's revenue growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 40%. Still, the latest three year period has seen an excellent 55% overall rise in revenue, in spite of its unsatisfying short-term performance. Although it's been a bumpy ride, it's still fair to say the revenue growth recently has been more than adequate for the company.

Comparing that to the industry, which is only predicted to deliver 6.0% growth in the next 12 months, the company's momentum is stronger based on recent medium-term annualised revenue results.

With this information, we find it interesting that WiMi Hologram Cloud is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. It may be that most investors are not convinced the company can maintain its recent growth rates.

The Final Word

WiMi Hologram Cloud's stock has a lot of momentum behind it lately, which has brought its P/S level with the rest of the industry. It's argued the price-to-sales ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.

We didn't quite envision WiMi Hologram Cloud's P/S sitting in line with the wider industry, considering the revenue growth over the last three-year is higher than the current industry outlook. There could be some unobserved threats to revenue preventing the P/S ratio from matching this positive performance. At least the risk of a price drop looks to be subdued if recent medium-term revenue trends continue, but investors seem to think future revenue could see some volatility.
