Criteo (CRTO) Stock Sinks As Lower 2026 Outlook Resets Confidence

Criteo stock just suffered a 24% one day hit, dropping from US$22.40 to about US$17, even though the core Q2 headline was not a collapse in revenue but a reset in confidence. The ad tech company produced US$428 million of revenue and kept adjusted EBITDA healthy, yet lowered its 2026 outlook after large Performance Media clients pulled back.

That clash between a sharp guidance cut and still solid profitability is what is driving the mood today. The market is treating the outlook reset as a verdict on Criteo’s long term earnings power rather than just a painful year of client specific strain.

Is Criteo now a genuine bargain after a 24% one day drop, or is the lower 2026 outlook a warning that the stock deserves to be this cheap? Compare the current share price against our detailed valuation analysis for Criteo

Criteo bull case leans on resilient profit engine

Bulls argue Criteo is building a durable commerce media and Agentic AI platform, with short term client issues but a solid profit engine to fund the shift. Q2 supports part of that view. Media spend reached US$1.1b, which suggests underlying advertiser engagement is intact even as contribution ex TAC fell about 12% at constant currency. Adjusted EBITDA of US$73m and a guided 30% margin for 2026 back the claim that Criteo can protect profitability while investing in AI, Criteo GO and data centers. Retail Media is another bright spot. Excluding the US$21m hit from two client scope reductions, underlying Retail Media contribution ex TAC grew about 20% and now spans more than 85 auction based display retailers. Trailing 12 month free cash flow of US$180m also shows the business still converts earnings to cash.

Criteo bear case focuses on client strain and reset

The bear story says Criteo is too exposed to large clients and that new AI and Criteo GO products are not yet offsetting that pressure. Q2 gives that view real weight. Contribution ex TAC is now guided to decline 10% to 12% in 2026 at constant currency, and management assumes no recovery from the pulled back enterprise Performance Media clients this year. Performance Media contribution ex TAC fell about 10% at constant currency, with softness in travel, discretionary retail and the US and Asia Pacific regions. Management also does not expect meaningful 2026 revenue from the OpenAI partnership or Agentic AI work, so the new products are not yet disproving the concern about slow monetization. The near 24% one day share price drop and guided free cash flow conversion of only about 35% of adjusted EBITDA in 2026 underline how much the outlook has been reset.
