Kanzhun Limited (NASDAQ:BZ) shares have had a really impressive month, gaining 44% after a shaky period beforehand. Looking further back, the 16% rise over the last twelve months isn't too bad notwithstanding the strength over the last 30 days.

Following the firm bounce in price, when almost half of the companies in the United States' Interactive Media and Services industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") below 1.9x, you may consider Kanzhun as a stock not worth researching with its 12x P/S ratio. However, the P/S might be quite high for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

What Does Kanzhun's P/S Mean For Shareholders?

The revenue growth achieved at Kanzhun over the last year would be more than acceptable for most companies. Perhaps the market is expecting this decent revenue performance to beat out the industry over the near term, which has kept the P/S propped up. If not, then existing shareholders may be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.

Is There Enough Revenue Growth Forecasted For Kanzhun?

In order to justify its P/S ratio, Kanzhun would need to produce outstanding growth that's well in excess of the industry.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew revenue by an impressive 21% last year. Pleasingly, revenue has also lifted 181% in aggregate from three years ago, thanks to the last 12 months of growth. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.

This is in contrast to the rest of the industry, which is expected to grow by 14% over the next year, materially lower than the company's recent medium-term annualised growth rates.

With this information, we can see why Kanzhun is trading at such a high P/S compared to the industry. It seems most investors are expecting this strong growth to continue and are willing to pay more for the stock.

The Key Takeaway

The strong share price surge has lead to Kanzhun's P/S soaring as well. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.

It's no surprise that Kanzhun can support its high P/S given the strong revenue growth its experienced over the last three-year is superior to the current industry outlook. In the eyes of shareholders, the probability of a continued growth trajectory is great enough to prevent the P/S from pulling back. Barring any significant changes to the company's ability to make money, the share price should continue to be propped up.
