Allstate Stock: Investors Are Missing A Golden Opportunity

Allstate has a rich history of profitability and has grown net operating profit after-tax from over $1.87 billion in 2016 to more than $6.2 billion in 2021. The company’s return on invested capital has dramatically improved, rising from 8.2% in 2016 to 22.3% for the last 12 months. Allstate employs conservative underwriting practices which, in the short term, may hurt profitability but which, in the long run, will improve it and make the company stronger. A rise in the frequency of car accidents has hurt the company’s profitability and led to a slump in the stock price. I see a potential 160% upside for the ALL stock.

Allstate: A Blue-Chip Dividend Growth Stock To Buy Hand Over Fist

Allstate's adjusted diluted EPS payout ratio will still be sustainable next year in the low-30% range. The property and casualty insurer's consolidated revenue and adjusted diluted EPS are both up double-digits year-to-date year-over-year. With a $98.6 billion investment portfolio, few stocks will benefit more than Allstate from the interest rate hikes that lie ahead next year. Based on my inputs into the discounted cash flows model and dividend discount model, Allstate is currently priced at a 23% discount to fair value. The stock's market-beating 2.8% yield and high-single-digit annual earnings growth potential alone make it a solid buy for dividend growth investors.

Allstate Continues To Look Attractive

ALL has generated solid returns, especially for its low risk level. The analysts have consistently underestimated earnings over the past year. The current Wall Street consensus is bullish, with 12.7% expected 12-month total return. The market-implied outlook for ALL (derived from options prices) has gotten significantly more bullish over the past 6 months.

You're In Goods Hand With Allstate

We expect Allstate to benefit over the next few years from the “transformative growth plan” currently underway. The stock is still at attractive valuation at a projected '22 P/E of 10x. It is slightly below the ten-year average of 11.6x. Should economic recovery continue, leading to an increase in government bond yields, the investment portfolio of the company could benefit from a higher reinvestment rate.
