The Return Trends At Option Care Health (NASDAQ:OPCH) Look Promising
There are a few key trends to look for if we want to identify the next multi-bagger. Firstly, we'll want to see a proven return on capital employed (ROCE) that is increasing, and secondly, an expanding base of capital employed. Ultimately, this demonstrates that it's a business that is reinvesting profits at increasing rates of return. So when we looked at Option Care Health (NASDAQ:OPCH) and its trend of ROCE, we really liked what we saw.
Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What Is It?
Just to clarify if you're unsure, ROCE is a metric for evaluating how much pre-tax income (in percentage terms) a company earns on the capital invested in its business. Analysts use this formula to calculate it for Option Care Health:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.094 = US$233m ÷ (US$3.1b - US$587m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2022).
So, Option Care Health has an ROCE of 9.4%. On its own, that's a low figure but it's around the 10% average generated by the Healthcare industry.
Our analysis indicates that OPCH is potentially undervalued!
In the above chart we have measured Option Care Health's prior ROCE against its prior performance, but the future is arguably more important. If you'd like, you can check out the forecasts from the analysts covering Option Care Health here for free.
What The Trend Of ROCE Can Tell Us
While in absolute terms it isn't a high ROCE, it's promising to see that it has been moving in the right direction. Over the last four years, returns on capital employed have risen substantially to 9.4%. Basically the business is earning more per dollar of capital invested and in addition to that, 109% more capital is being employed now too. So we're very much inspired by what we're seeing at Option Care Health thanks to its ability to profitably reinvest capital.
The Bottom Line
A company that is growing its returns on capital and can consistently reinvest in itself is a highly sought after trait, and that's what Option Care Health has. And with the stock having performed exceptionally well over the last three years, these patterns are being accounted for by investors. So given the stock has proven it has promising trends, it's worth researching the company further to see if these trends are likely to persist.
Like most companies, Option Care Health does come with some risks, and we've found 1 warning sign that you should be aware of.
