Things Look Grim For CareCloud, Inc. (NASDAQ:CCLD) After Today's Downgrade
Today is shaping up negative for CareCloud, Inc. (NASDAQ:CCLD) shareholders, with the analysts delivering a substantial negative revision to this year's forecasts. Both revenue and earnings per share (EPS) forecasts went under the knife, suggesting the analysts have soured majorly on the business.
After the downgrade, the consensus from CareCloud's four analysts is for revenues of US$121m in 2023, which would reflect a small 4.0% decline in sales compared to the last year of performance. Per-share losses are expected to explode, reaching US$1.32 per share. However, before this estimates update, the consensus had been expecting revenues of US$142m and US$0.64 per share in losses. Ergo, there's been a clear change in sentiment, with the analysts administering a notable cut to this year's revenue estimates, while at the same time increasing their loss per share forecasts.

The consensus price target fell 34% to US$6.08, implicitly signalling that lower earnings per share are a leading indicator for CareCloud's valuation. The consensus price target is just an average of individual analyst targets, so - it could be handy to see how wide the range of underlying estimates is. The most optimistic CareCloud analyst has a price target of US$9.00 per share, while the most pessimistic values it at US$3.00. Note the wide gap in analyst price targets? This implies to us that there is a fairly broad range of possible scenarios for the underlying business.
One way to get more context on these forecasts is to look at how they compare to both past performance, and how other companies in the same industry are performing. We would highlight that sales are expected to reverse, with a forecast 7.8% annualised revenue decline to the end of 2023. That is a notable change from historical growth of 24% over the last five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in the same industry are forecast to see their revenue grow 12% annually for the foreseeable future. It's pretty clear that CareCloud's revenues are expected to perform substantially worse than the wider industry.
The Bottom Line
The most important thing to take away is that analysts increased their loss per share estimates for this year. Unfortunately analysts also downgraded their revenue estimates, and industry data suggests that CareCloud's revenues are expected to grow slower than the wider market. Given the scope of the downgrades, it would not be a surprise to see the market become more wary of the business.
Even so, the longer term trajectory of the business is much more important for the value creation of shareholders. At Simply Wall St, we have a full range of analyst estimates for CareCloud going out to 2025, and you can see them free on our platform here.
