CareCloud, Inc. (NASDAQ:CCLD) Shares Fly 25% But Investors Aren't Buying For Growth
CareCloud, Inc. (NASDAQ:CCLD) shares have had a really impressive month, gaining 25% after a shaky period beforehand. The last 30 days bring the annual gain to a very sharp 67%.
Although its price has surged higher, CareCloud's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.4x might still make it look like a buy right now compared to the Healthcare Services industry in the United States, where around half of the companies have P/S ratios above 2x and even P/S above 5x are quite common. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

What Does CareCloud's Recent Performance Look Like?
While the industry has experienced revenue growth lately, CareCloud's revenue has gone into reverse gear, which is not great. It seems that many are expecting the poor revenue performance to persist, which has repressed the P/S ratio. If you still like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.
Keen to find out how analysts think CareCloud's future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start. What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The Low P/S?
CareCloud's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver limited growth, and importantly, perform worse than the industry.
Taking a look back first, the company's revenue growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 11%. As a result, revenue from three years ago have also fallen 12% overall. Accordingly, shareholders would have felt downbeat about the medium-term rates of revenue growth.
Turning to the outlook, the next year should generate growth of 1.5% as estimated by the four analysts watching the company. With the industry predicted to deliver 9.3% growth, the company is positioned for a weaker revenue result.
With this information, we can see why CareCloud is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. It seems most investors are expecting to see limited future growth and are only willing to pay a reduced amount for the stock.
What We Can Learn From CareCloud's P/S?
The latest share price surge wasn't enough to lift CareCloud's P/S close to the industry median. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.
As expected, our analysis of CareCloud's analyst forecasts confirms that the company's underwhelming revenue outlook is a major contributor to its low P/S. Shareholders' pessimism on the revenue prospects for the company seems to be the main contributor to the depressed P/S. Unless these conditions improve, they will continue to form a barrier for the share price around these levels.
