International Seaways, Inc. (NYSE:INSW) Analysts Are More Bearish Than They Used To Be
The analysts covering International Seaways, Inc. (NYSE:INSW) delivered a dose of negativity to shareholders today, by making a substantial revision to their statutory forecasts for this year. Both revenue and earnings per share (EPS) estimates were cut sharply as the analysts factored in the latest outlook for the business, concluding that they were too optimistic previously.
Following the latest downgrade, the eight analysts covering International Seaways provided consensus estimates of US$781m revenue in 2025, which would reflect a considerable 18% decline on its sales over the past 12 months. Statutory earnings per share are supposed to crater 53% to US$3.97 in the same period. Before this latest update, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of US$904m and earnings per share (EPS) of US$5.12 in 2025. It looks like analyst sentiment has declined substantially, with a substantial drop in revenue estimates and a large cut to earnings per share numbers as well.

Despite the cuts to forecast earnings, there was no real change to the US$58.63 price target, showing that the analysts don't think the changes have a meaningful impact on its intrinsic value.
One way to get more context on these forecasts is to look at how they compare to both past performance, and how other companies in the same industry are performing. These estimates imply that sales are expected to slow, with a forecast annualised revenue decline of 18% by the end of 2025. This indicates a significant reduction from annual growth of 28% over the last five years. Compare this with our data, which suggests that other companies in the same industry are, in aggregate, expected to see their revenue grow 4.0% per year. It's pretty clear that International Seaways' revenues are expected to perform substantially worse than the wider industry.
The Bottom Line
The biggest issue in the new estimates is that analysts have reduced their earnings per share estimates, suggesting business headwinds lay ahead for International Seaways. Unfortunately analysts also downgraded their revenue estimates, and industry data suggests that International Seaways' revenues are expected to grow slower than the wider market. We're also surprised to see that the price target went unchanged. Still, deteriorating business conditions (assuming accurate forecasts!) can be a leading indicator for the stock price, so we wouldn't blame investors for being more cautious on International Seaways after the downgrade.
Still, the long-term prospects of the business are much more relevant than next year's earnings. At Simply Wall St, we have a full range of analyst estimates for International Seaways going out to 2027, and you can see them free on our platform here.
