Insider Stock Buying Reaches US$2.51m On Dave & Buster's Entertainment
Quite a few insiders have dramatically grown their holdings in Dave & Buster's Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ:PLAY) over the past 12 months. An insider's optimism about the company's prospects is a positive sign.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.
Dave & Buster's Entertainment Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Independent Chair of the Board Kevin Sheehan bought US$961k worth of shares at a price of US$25.48 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being US$17.10). Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock if insiders have bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price.
In the last twelve months insiders purchased 93.82k shares for US$2.5m. On the other hand they divested 11.93k shares, for US$370k. Overall, Dave & Buster's Entertainment insiders were net buyers during the last year. Insider Ownership Of Dave & Buster's Entertainment
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that Dave & Buster's Entertainment insiders own 2.3% of the company, worth about US$14m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
