Inspirato Incorporated (NASDAQ:ISPO) Looks Inexpensive After Falling 27% But Perhaps Not Attractive Enough
Inspirato Incorporated (NASDAQ:ISPO) shareholders won't be pleased to see that the share price has had a very rough month, dropping 27% and undoing the prior period's positive performance. The drop over the last 30 days has capped off a tough year for shareholders, with the share price down 26% in that time.
Since its price has dipped substantially, Inspirato may be sending buy signals at present with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.2x, considering almost half of all companies in the Hospitality industry in the United States have P/S ratios greater than 1.6x and even P/S higher than 4x aren't out of the ordinary. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

What Does Inspirato's P/S Mean For Shareholders?
While the industry has experienced revenue growth lately, Inspirato's revenue has gone into reverse gear, which is not great. Perhaps the P/S remains low as investors think the prospects of strong revenue growth aren't on the horizon. If you still like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.
Keen to find out how analysts think Inspirato's future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start. How Is Inspirato's Revenue Growth Trending?
Inspirato's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver limited growth, and importantly, perform worse than the industry.
In reviewing the last year of financials, we were disheartened to see the company's revenues fell to the tune of 15%. Regardless, revenue has managed to lift by a handy 19% in aggregate from three years ago, thanks to the earlier period of growth. So we can start by confirming that the company has generally done a good job of growing revenue over that time, even though it had some hiccups along the way.
Looking ahead now, revenue is anticipated to slump, contracting by 12% during the coming year according to the sole analyst following the company. That's not great when the rest of the industry is expected to grow by 15%.
With this information, we are not surprised that Inspirato is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. However, shrinking revenues are unlikely to lead to a stable P/S over the longer term. Even just maintaining these prices could be difficult to achieve as the weak outlook is weighing down the shares.
What We Can Learn From Inspirato's P/S?
Inspirato's P/S has taken a dip along with its share price. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.
As we suspected, our examination of Inspirato's analyst forecasts revealed that its outlook for shrinking revenue is contributing to its low P/S. At this stage investors feel the potential for an improvement in revenue isn't great enough to justify a higher P/S ratio. Unless there's material change, it's hard to envision a situation where the stock price will rise drastically.
