Insperity's Payment Has Solid Earnings Coverage
Impressive dividend yields are good, but this doesn't matter much if the payments can't be sustained. The last dividend was quite easily covered by Insperity's earnings. This means that a large portion of its earnings are being retained to grow the business.
Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to fall by 4.4% over the next year. Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we believe the payout ratio could be 60%, which we are pretty comfortable with and we think is feasible on an earnings basis.
Insperity Has A Solid Track Record
The company has a sustained record of paying dividends with very little fluctuation. Since 2011, the first annual payment was US$0.26, compared to the most recent full-year payment of US$1.80. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 21% a year over that time. Rapidly growing dividends for a long time is a very valuable feature for an income stock.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
The company's investors will be pleased to have been receiving dividend income for some time. Insperity has seen EPS rising for the last five years, at 24% per annum. Insperity is clearly able to grow rapidly while still returning cash to shareholders, positioning it to become a strong dividend payer in the future.
Insperity Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock
In summary, it is always positive to see the dividend being increased, and we are particularly pleased with its overall sustainability. The company is generating plenty of cash, and the earnings also quite easily cover the distributions. If earnings do fall over the next 12 months, the dividend could be buffeted a little bit, but we don't think it should cause too much of a problem in the long term. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one.
