WESCO International (NYSE:WCC) Is Increasing Its Dividend To $0.4538
The board of WESCO International, Inc. (NYSE:WCC) has announced that the dividend on 31st of March will be increased to $0.4538, which will be 10% higher than last year's payment of $0.413 which covered the same period. Even though the dividend went up, the yield is still quite low at only 0.9%.

WESCO International's Payment Could Potentially Have Solid Earnings Coverage
While yield is important, another factor to consider about a company's dividend is whether the current payout levels are feasible. Before making this announcement, WESCO International was easily earning enough to cover the dividend. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.
Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to rise by 41.2% over the next year. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 9.7% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.
WESCO International Doesn't Have A Long Payment History
Looking back, the dividend has been stable, but the company hasn't been paying a dividend for very long so we can't be confident that the dividend will remain stable through all economic environments. Since 2023, the annual payment back then was $1.50, compared to the most recent full-year payment of $1.65. This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 4.9% over that duration. Modest dividend growth is good to see, especially with the payments being relatively stable. However, the payment history is relatively short and we wouldn't want to rely on this dividend too much.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Investors who have held shares in the company for the past few years will be happy with the dividend income they have received. WESCO International has seen EPS rising for the last five years, at 21% per annum. Earnings per share is growing at a solid clip, and the payout ratio is low which we think is an ideal combination in a dividend stock as the company can quite easily raise the dividend in the future.
WESCO International Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock
In summary, it is always positive to see the dividend being increased, and we are particularly pleased with its overall sustainability. Earnings are easily covering distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. All in all, this checks a lot of the boxes we look for when choosing an income stock.
