Possible Bearish Signals With EMCOR Group Insiders Disposing Stock
In the last year, many EMCOR Group, Inc. (NYSE:EME) insiders sold a substantial stake in the company which may have sparked shareholders' attention. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

EMCOR Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Chairman, Anthony Guzzi, sold US$1.9m worth of shares at a price of US$320 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$463. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. It is worth noting that this sale was only 2.6% of Anthony Guzzi's holding.

Insider Ownership Of EMCOR Group
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It's great to see that EMCOR Group insiders own 1.2% of the company, worth about US$257m. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
So What Does This Data Suggest About EMCOR Group Insiders?
It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded EMCOR Group shares in the last quarter.
