From what we can see, insiders were net sellers in Garrett Motion Inc.'s (NASDAQ:GTX ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders sold the stock in greater numbers than they purchased it.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Garrett Motion

The Senior Vice President of Integrated Supply Chain, Thierry Mabru, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$374k worth of shares at a price of US$7.47 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$12.85. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. This single sale was 57% of Thierry Mabru's stake. The only individual insider seller over the last year was Thierry Mabru.

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Garrett Motion insiders own about US$22m worth of shares. That equates to 0.8% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
