Cenntro Inc. (NASDAQ:CENN) shares have continued their recent momentum with a 27% gain in the last month alone. Unfortunately, the gains of the last month did little to right the losses of the last year with the stock still down 41% over that time.

After such a large jump in price, when almost half of the companies in the United States' Auto industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") below 1.7x, you may consider Cenntro as a stock probably not worth researching with its 2.6x P/S ratio. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's as high as it is.

What Does Cenntro's P/S Mean For Shareholders?

Cenntro certainly has been doing a great job lately as it's been growing its revenue at a really rapid pace. It seems that many are expecting the strong revenue performance to beat most other companies over the coming period, which has increased investors’ willingness to pay up for the stock. You'd really hope so, otherwise you're paying a pretty hefty price for no particular reason.

We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on Cenntro's earnings, revenue and cash flow.

Is There Enough Revenue Growth Forecasted For Cenntro?

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as high as Cenntro's is when the company's growth is on track to outshine the industry.

If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 108%. Pleasingly, revenue has also lifted 279% in aggregate from three years ago, thanks to the last 12 months of growth. So we can start by confirming that the company has done a great job of growing revenue over that time.

Comparing that recent medium-term revenue trajectory with the industry's one-year growth forecast of 13% shows it's noticeably more attractive.

In light of this, it's understandable that Cenntro's P/S sits above the majority of other companies. Presumably shareholders aren't keen to offload something they believe will continue to outmanoeuvre the wider industry.

The Bottom Line On Cenntro's P/S

Cenntro shares have taken a big step in a northerly direction, but its P/S is elevated as a result. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.

It's no surprise that Cenntro can support its high P/S given the strong revenue growth its experienced over the last three-year is superior to the current industry outlook. In the eyes of shareholders, the probability of a continued growth trajectory is great enough to prevent the P/S from pulling back. If recent medium-term revenue trends continue, it's hard to see the share price falling strongly in the near future under these circumstances.
