The Market Lifts Lang Inc. (TWSE:6165) Shares 27% But It Can Do More
Despite an already strong run, Lang Inc. (TWSE:6165) shares have been powering on, with a gain of 27% in the last thirty days. The last 30 days bring the annual gain to a very sharp 45%.
Although its price has surged higher, it would still be understandable if you think Lang is a stock with good investment prospects with a price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") of 1.1x, considering almost half the companies in Taiwan's Electronic industry have P/S ratios above 1.6x. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

What Does Lang's P/S Mean For Shareholders?
As an illustration, revenue has deteriorated at Lang over the last year, which is not ideal at all. Perhaps the market believes the recent revenue performance isn't good enough to keep up the industry, causing the P/S ratio to suffer. However, if this doesn't eventuate then existing shareholders may be feeling optimistic about the future direction of the share price.

Lang's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver limited growth, and importantly, perform worse than the industry.
Retrospectively, the last year delivered a frustrating 6.1% decrease to the company's top line. The latest three year period has seen an incredible overall rise in revenue, a stark contrast to the last 12 months. Accordingly, shareholders will be pleased, but also have some serious questions to ponder about the last 12 months.
Comparing that to the industry, which is only predicted to deliver 9.6% growth in the next 12 months, the company's momentum is stronger based on recent medium-term annualised revenue results.
With this information, we find it odd that Lang is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance has exceeded its limits and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.
The Final Word
Despite Lang's share price climbing recently, its P/S still lags most other companies. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.
We're very surprised to see Lang currently trading on a much lower than expected P/S since its recent three-year growth is higher than the wider industry forecast. When we see strong revenue with faster-than-industry growth, we assume there are some significant underlying risks to the company's ability to make money which is applying downwards pressure on the P/S ratio. It appears many are indeed anticipating revenue instability, because the persistence of these recent medium-term conditions would normally provide a boost to the share price.
We don't want to rain on the parade too much, but we did also find 3 warning signs for Lang that you need to be mindful of.
