RITEK's (TPE:2349) Stock Price Has Reduced 25% In The Past Three Years
Many investors define successful investing as beating the market average over the long term. But the risk of stock picking is that you will likely buy under-performing companies. We regret to report that long term RITEK Corporation (TPE:2349) shareholders have had that experience, with the share price dropping 25% in three years, versus a market return of about 68%. The silver lining is that the stock is up 4.9% in about a week.

Because RITEK made a loss in the last twelve months, we think the market is probably more focussed on revenue and revenue growth, at least for now. When a company doesn't make profits, we'd generally expect to see good revenue growth. As you can imagine, fast revenue growth, when maintained, often leads to fast profit growth.
Over the last three years, RITEK's revenue dropped 13% per year. That's not what investors generally want to see. The stock has disappointed holders over the last three years, falling 8%, annualized. And with no profits, and weak revenue, are you surprised? Of course, sentiment could become too negative, and the company may actually be making progress to profitability.

A Different Perspective
RITEK shareholders are down 5.6% for the year, but the market itself is up 44%. Even the share prices of good stocks drop sometimes, but we want to see improvements in the fundamental metrics of a business, before getting too interested. Longer term investors wouldn't be so upset, since they would have made 0.2%, each year, over five years. If the fundamental data continues to indicate long term sustainable growth, the current sell-off could be an opportunity worth considering.
