Jadason Enterprises Ltd (SGX:J03) May Have Run Too Fast Too Soon With Recent 33% Price Plummet

The Jadason Enterprises Ltd (SGX:J03) share price has softened a substantial 33% over the previous 30 days, handing back much of the gains the stock has made lately. Still, a bad month hasn't completely ruined the past year with the stock gaining 50%, which is great even in a bull market.

Although its price has dipped substantially, there still wouldn't be many who think Jadason Enterprises' price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.4x is worth a mention when the median P/S in Singapore's Electronic industry is similar at about 0.6x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

How Jadason Enterprises Has Been Performing

For example, consider that Jadason Enterprises' financial performance has been poor lately as its revenue has been in decline. It might be that many expect the company to put the disappointing revenue performance behind them over the coming period, which has kept the P/S from falling. If not, then existing shareholders may be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.

We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on Jadason Enterprises' earnings, revenue and cash flow.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The P/S Ratio?

Jadason Enterprises' P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver moderate growth, and importantly, perform in line with the industry.

In reviewing the last year of financials, we were disheartened to see the company's revenues fell to the tune of 6.8%. As a result, revenue from three years ago have also fallen 36% overall. Accordingly, shareholders would have felt downbeat about the medium-term rates of revenue growth.

Weighing that medium-term revenue trajectory against the broader industry's one-year forecast for expansion of 20% shows it's an unpleasant look.

With this in mind, we find it worrying that Jadason Enterprises' P/S exceeds that of its industry peers. Apparently many investors in the company are way less bearish than recent times would indicate and aren't willing to let go of their stock right now. Only the boldest would assume these prices are sustainable as a continuation of recent revenue trends is likely to weigh on the share price eventually.

The Final Word

With its share price dropping off a cliff, the P/S for Jadason Enterprises looks to be in line with the rest of the Electronic industry. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.

The fact that Jadason Enterprises currently trades at a P/S on par with the rest of the industry is surprising to us since its recent revenues have been in decline over the medium-term, all while the industry is set to grow. When we see revenue heading backwards in the context of growing industry forecasts, it'd make sense to expect a possible share price decline on the horizon, sending the moderate P/S lower. Unless the recent medium-term conditions improve markedly, investors will have a hard time accepting the share price as fair value.
