Read This Before Selling Far East Hospitality Trust (SGX:Q5T) Shares
It is not uncommon to see companies perform well in the years after insiders buy shares. The flip side of that is that there are more than a few examples of insiders dumping stock prior to a period of weak performance. So shareholders might well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Far East Hospitality Trust (SGX:Q5T).
What Is Insider Buying?
It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.
We don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.

Far East Hospitality Trust Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Independent Director of FEO Hospitality Asset Management Pte Ltd Cheng Eng Huang for S$177k worth of shares, at about S$0.45 per share. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (S$0.61), we still think insider buying is a positive. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

However, it's possible that insiders might have an indirect interest through a more complex structure. We prefer to see high levels of insider ownership.
