Here's Why We Think Geo Energy Resources (SGX:RE4) Is Well Worth Watching
For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it completely lacks a track record of revenue and profit. And in their study titled Who Falls Prey to the Wolf of Wall Street?' Leuz et. al. found that it is 'quite common' for investors to lose money by buying into 'pump and dump' schemes.
So if you're like me, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Geo Energy Resources (SGX:RE4). Even if the shares are fully valued today, most capitalists would recognize its profits as the demonstration of steady value generation. Conversely, a loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the sweet milk of external capital may run sour.

Geo Energy Resources's Improving Profits
In the last three years Geo Energy Resources's earnings per share took off like a rocket; fast, and from a low base. So the actual rate of growth doesn't tell us much. As a result, I'll zoom in on growth over the last year, instead. Like the last firework on New Year's Eve accelerating into the sky, Geo Energy Resources's EPS shot from US$0.068 to US$0.13, over the last year. You don't see 86% year-on-year growth like that, very often. That could be a sign that the business has reached a true inflection point.
One way to double-check a company's growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. The good news is that Geo Energy Resources is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 33.2 percentage points to 37%, over the last year. Ticking those two boxes is a good sign of growth, in my book.

While it's always good to see growing profits, you should always remember that a weak balance sheet could come back to bite. So check Geo Energy Resources's balance sheet strength, before getting too excited.
Are Geo Energy Resources Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Many consider high insider ownership to be a strong sign of alignment between the leaders of a company and the ordinary shareholders. So we're pleased to report that Geo Energy Resources insiders own a meaningful share of the business. Actually, with 37% of the company to their names, insiders are profoundly invested in the business. I'm reassured by this kind of alignment, as it suggests the business will be run for the benefit of shareholders. With that sort of holding, insiders have about US$260m riding on the stock, at current prices. That should be more than enough to keep them focussed on creating shareholder value!
Is Geo Energy Resources Worth Keeping An Eye On?
Geo Energy Resources's earnings per share growth have been levitating higher, like a mountain goat scaling the Alps. That sort of growth is nothing short of eye-catching, and the large investment held by insiders certainly brightens my view of the company. At times fast EPS growth is a sign the business has reached an inflection point; and I do like those. So yes, on this short analysis I do think it's worth considering Geo Energy Resources for a spot on your watchlist. We don't want to rain on the parade too much, but we did also find 3 warning signs for Geo Energy Resources that you need to be mindful of.
Although Geo Energy Resources certainly looks good to me, I would like it more if insiders were buying up shares. If you like to see insider buying, too, then this free list of growing companies that insiders are buying, could be exactly what you're looking for.
