Camurus (STO:CAMX) pulls back 8.7% this week, but still delivers shareholders massive 42% CAGR over 5 years
Camurus AB (publ) (STO:CAMX) shareholders have seen the share price descend 12% over the month. But that doesn't undermine the fantastic longer term performance (measured over five years). To be precise, the stock price is 485% higher than it was five years ago, a wonderful performance by any measure. So it might be that some shareholders are taking profits after good performance. Of course what matters most is whether the business can improve itself sustainably, thus justifying a higher price.
While this past week has detracted from the company's five-year return, let's look at the recent trends of the underlying business and see if the gains have been in alignment.
To quote Buffett, 'Ships will sail around the world but the Flat Earth Society will flourish. There will continue to be wide discrepancies between price and value in the marketplace...' One way to examine how market sentiment has changed over time is to look at the interaction between a company's share price and its earnings per share (EPS).
During the last half decade, Camurus became profitable. Sometimes, the start of profitability is a major inflection point that can signal fast earnings growth to come, which in turn justifies very strong share price gains.

A Different Perspective

Potential buyers might understandably feel they've missed the opportunity, but it's always possible business is still firing on all cylinders.
