Insiders were net sellers of Better Collective A/S' (STO:BETCO ) stock during the past year. That is, insiders sold more stock than they bought.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Better Collective

The Independent Chairman, Jens Bager, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for kr35m worth of shares at a price of kr231 each. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (kr111). So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it. Jens Bager was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Does Better Collective Boast High Insider Ownership?

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It appears that Better Collective insiders own 2.2% of the company, worth about kr152m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Better Collective Insiders?

The fact that there have been no Better Collective insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. It's heartening that insiders own plenty of stock, but we'd like to see more insider buying, since the last year of Better Collective insider transactions don't fill us with confidence. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company.
