We Like These Underlying Return On Capital Trends At Farmaceutica REMEDIA (BVB:RMAH)
What are the early trends we should look for to identify a stock that could multiply in value over the long term? Ideally, a business will show two trends; firstly a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and secondly, an increasing amount of capital employed. This shows us that it's a compounding machine, able to continually reinvest its earnings back into the business and generate higher returns. So when we looked at Farmaceutica REMEDIA (BVB:RMAH) and its trend of ROCE, we really liked what we saw.
Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What is it?
If you haven't worked with ROCE before, it measures the 'return' (pre-tax profit) a company generates from capital employed in its business. To calculate this metric for Farmaceutica REMEDIA, this is the formula:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.019 = RON1.5m ÷ (RON244m - RON162m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to December 2020).
Thus, Farmaceutica REMEDIA has an ROCE of 1.9%. Ultimately, that's a low return and it under-performs the Consumer Retailing industry average of 8.6%.

While the past is not representative of the future, it can be helpful to know how a company has performed historically, which is why we have this chart above. What Does the ROCE Trend For Farmaceutica REMEDIA Tell Us?
Even though ROCE is still low in absolute terms, it's good to see it's heading in the right direction. The numbers show that in the last five years, the returns generated on capital employed have grown considerably to 1.9%. The amount of capital employed has increased too, by 101%. This can indicate that there's plenty of opportunities to invest capital internally and at ever higher rates, a combination that's common among multi-baggers.
On a separate but related note, it's important to know that Farmaceutica REMEDIA has a current liabilities to total assets ratio of 66%, which we'd consider pretty high. This can bring about some risks because the company is basically operating with a rather large reliance on its suppliers or other sorts of short-term creditors. While it's not necessarily a bad thing, it can be beneficial if this ratio is lower.
Our Take On Farmaceutica REMEDIA's ROCE
All in all, it's terrific to see that Farmaceutica REMEDIA is reaping the rewards from prior investments and is growing its capital base. And with the stock having performed exceptionally well over the last five years, these patterns are being accounted for by investors. So given the stock has proven it has promising trends, it's worth researching the company further to see if these trends are likely to persist.
