I am going to take a deep dive into Pixel Venture Capital SA.’s (WSE:TLH) most recent ownership structure, not a frequent subject of discussion among individual investors. When it comes to ownership structure of a company, the impact has been observed in both the long-and short-term performance of shares. Different types of investors can have varying degrees of influence on a company’s management team. For example, an active institutional investor may be more likely to hold a company accountable for certain actions whereas a passive fund will move in and out of stocks without regards to corporate governance. The implications of these institutions’ actions can either benefit or hinder individual investors, so it is important to understand the ownership composition of your stock investment. Therefore, I will take a look at TLH's shareholders in more detail.

Institutional Ownership

Due to the big order sizes of institutional investors, a company's shares can experience large, one-sided momentum, driven by high volume of shares removed from, or injected into, the market. With hardly any institutional ownership, TLH stock poses limited concern relating to the effect institutional block trades have on its stock price.

Insider Ownership

I find insiders are another important group of stakeholders, who are directly involved in making key decisions related to the use of capital. In essence, insider ownership is more about the alignment of shareholders' interests with the management. A major group of owners of TLH is individual insiders, sitting with a hefty 24.26% stake in the company. Broadly, insider ownership of this level has been found to negatively affect companies with consistently low PE ratio (underperforming). And a positive impact has been seen on companies with a high PE ratio (outperforming). It's also interesting to learn what TLH insiders have been doing with their shareholdings lately. While insider buying is possibly a sign of a positive outlook for the company, selling doesn't necessarily indicate a negative outlook as they may be selling to meet personal financial needs.

General Public Ownership

A substantial ownership of 30.66% in TLH is held by the general public. With this size of ownership, retail investors can collectively play a role in major company policies that affect shareholders returns, including executive remuneration and the appointment of directors. They can also exercise the power to decline an acquisition or merger that may not improve profitability.

Private Equity Ownership

With an ownership of 41.62%, private equity firms are a major stakeholder in TLH and are in a position to play an important role in shaping up corporate strategy with a focus on value creation. This is a positive sign for potential investors as these firms play an important role in aligning company policy with shareholder returns.

Private Company Ownership

Another important group of owners for potential investors in TLH are private companies that hold a stake of 2.77% in TLH. These are companies that are mainly invested due to their strategic interests or are incentivized by reaping capital gains on investments their shareholdings. However, an ownership of this size may be relatively insignificant, meaning that these shareholders may not have the potential to influence TLH's business strategy. Thus, investors not need worry too much about the consequences of these holdings.
