Today is shaping up negative for Måsøval AS (OB:MAS) shareholders, with the analysts delivering a substantial negative revision to this year's forecasts. Both revenue and earnings per share (EPS) forecasts went under the knife, suggesting the analysts have soured majorly on the business.

Following the downgrade, the latest consensus from Måsøval's three analysts is for revenues of kr1.9b in 2022, which would reflect a major 54% improvement in sales compared to the last 12 months. Per-share earnings are expected to bounce 77% to kr2.79. Before this latest update, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of kr2.2b and earnings per share (EPS) of kr3.52 in 2022. Indeed, we can see that the analysts are a lot more bearish about Måsøval's prospects, administering a substantial drop in revenue estimates and slashing their EPS estimates to boot.

Of course, another way to look at these forecasts is to place them into context against the industry itself. The analysts are definitely expecting Måsøval's growth to accelerate, with the forecast 136% annualised growth to the end of 2022 ranking favourably alongside historical growth of 76% per annum over the past year. Compare this with other companies in the same industry, which are forecast to grow their revenue 5.4% annually. It seems obvious that, while the growth outlook is brighter than the recent past, the analysts also expect Måsøval to grow faster than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The biggest issue in the new estimates is that analysts have reduced their earnings per share estimates, suggesting business headwinds lay ahead for Måsøval. Unfortunately, analysts also downgraded their revenue estimates, although our data indicates revenues are expected to perform better than the wider market. Given the serious cut to this year's outlook, it's clear that analysts have turned more bearish on Måsøval, and we wouldn't blame shareholders for feeling a little more cautious themselves.
