Otovo ASA (OB:OTOVO) Stock's 27% Dive Might Signal An Opportunity But It Requires Some Scrutiny
Unfortunately for some shareholders, the Otovo ASA (OB:OTOVO) share price has dived 27% in the last thirty days, prolonging recent pain. For any long-term shareholders, the last month ends a year to forget by locking in a 88% share price decline.
Following the heavy fall in price, it would be understandable if you think Otovo is a stock with good investment prospects with a price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") of 0.4x, considering almost half the companies in Norway's Electrical industry have P/S ratios above 1.1x. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the reduced P/S.

How Has Otovo Performed Recently?
While the industry has experienced revenue growth lately, Otovo's revenue has gone into reverse gear, which is not great. Perhaps the P/S remains low as investors think the prospects of strong revenue growth aren't on the horizon. If this is the case, then existing shareholders will probably struggle to get excited about the future direction of the share price.

Otovo's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver limited growth, and importantly, perform worse than the industry.
In reviewing the last year of financials, we were disheartened to see the company's revenues fell to the tune of 23%. Spectacularly, three year revenue growth has ballooned by several orders of magnitude, despite the drawbacks experienced in the last 12 months. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company, but investors will want to ask why it is now in decline.
Turning to the outlook, the next year should generate growth of 10.0% as estimated by the three analysts watching the company. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry is forecast to expand by 10%, which is not materially different.
In light of this, it's peculiar that Otovo's P/S sits below the majority of other companies. It may be that most investors are not convinced the company can achieve future growth expectations.
What We Can Learn From Otovo's P/S?
Otovo's P/S has taken a dip along with its share price. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.
It looks to us like the P/S figures for Otovo remain low despite growth that is expected to be in line with other companies in the industry. Despite average revenue growth estimates, there could be some unobserved threats keeping the P/S low. At least the risk of a price drop looks to be subdued, but investors seem to think future revenue could see some volatility.
And what about other risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 5 warning signs for Otovo (of which 3 shouldn't be ignored!) you should know about.
