We've lost count of how many times insiders have accumulated shares in a company that goes on to improve markedly. The flip side of that is that there are more than a few examples of insiders dumping stock prior to a period of weak performance. So before you buy or sell Heineken Holding N.V. (AMS:HEIO), you may well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling.
What Is Insider Selling?
Most investors know that it is quite permissible for company leaders, such as directors of the board, to buy and sell stock in the company. However, rules govern insider transactions, and certain disclosures are required.
Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.

Heineken Holding Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when insider Raoul Sidney Huët bought €250k worth of shares at a price of €67.22 per share. That implies that an insider found the current price of €78.45 per share to be enticing. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. If someone buys shares at well below current prices, it's a good sign on balance, but keep in mind they may no longer see value. Happily, the Heineken Holding insider decided to buy shares at close to current prices. The only individual insider to buy over the last year was Raoul Sidney Huët.
