Some have more dollars than sense, they say, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can easily find investors. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.'
In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like Corporación Moctezuma. de (BMV:CMOCTEZ). While that doesn't make the shares worth buying at any price, you can't deny that successful capitalism requires profit, eventually. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.
How Fast Is Corporación Moctezuma. de Growing Its Earnings Per Share?
Even with very modest growth rates, a company will usually do well if it improves earnings per share (EPS) year after year. So EPS growth can certainly encourage an investor to take note of a stock. Corporación Moctezuma. de boosted its trailing twelve month EPS from Mex$4.58 to Mex$5.22, in the last year. I doubt many would complain about that 14% gain.
I like to see top-line growth as an indication that growth is sustainable, and I look for a high earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margin to point to a competitive moat (though some companies with low margins also have moats). Corporación Moctezuma. de maintained stable EBIT margins over the last year, all while growing revenue 22% to Mex$16b. That's progress.

While profitability drives the upside, prudent investors always check the balance sheet, too.
Are Corporación Moctezuma. de Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
I like company leaders to have some skin in the game, so to speak, because it increases alignment of incentives between the people running the business, and its true owners. So it is good to see that Corporación Moctezuma. de insiders have a significant amount of capital invested in the stock. Indeed, they have a glittering mountain of wealth invested in it, currently valued at Mex$5.8b. This suggests to me that leadership will be very mindful of shareholders' interests when making decisions!
Is Corporación Moctezuma. de Worth Keeping An Eye On?
One positive for Corporación Moctezuma. de is that it is growing EPS. That's nice to see. Just as polish makes silverware pop, the high level of insider ownership enhances my enthusiasm for this growth. That combination appeals to me, for one. So yes, I do think the stock is worth keeping an eye on. Don't forget that there may still be risks. Of course, you can do well (sometimes) buying stocks that are not growing earnings and do not have insiders buying shares. But as a growth investor I always like to check out companies that do have those features. You can access a free list of them here.
