Bitnine Co, Ltd. (KOSDAQ:357880) Looks Inexpensive After Falling 31% But Perhaps Not Attractive Enough

To the annoyance of some shareholders, Bitnine Co, Ltd. (KOSDAQ:357880) shares are down a considerable 31% in the last month, which continues a horrid run for the company. The recent drop completes a disastrous twelve months for shareholders, who are sitting on a 67% loss during that time.

Following the heavy fall in price, given about half the companies operating in Korea's Software industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") above 2.1x, you may consider Bitnine Co as an attractive investment with its 1x P/S ratio. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

How Bitnine Co Has Been Performing

Bitnine Co certainly has been doing a great job lately as it's been growing its revenue at a really rapid pace. Perhaps the market is expecting future revenue performance to dwindle, which has kept the P/S suppressed. If that doesn't eventuate, then existing shareholders have reason to be quite optimistic about the future direction of the share price.

We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on Bitnine Co's earnings, revenue and cash flow.

What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The Low P/S?

In order to justify its P/S ratio, Bitnine Co would need to produce sluggish growth that's trailing the industry.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered an exceptional 36% gain to the company's top line. The latest three year period has also seen an excellent 111% overall rise in revenue, aided by its short-term performance. Accordingly, shareholders would have definitely welcomed those medium-term rates of revenue growth.

This is in contrast to the rest of the industry, which is expected to grow by 39% over the next year, materially higher than the company's recent medium-term annualised growth rates.

With this in consideration, it's easy to understand why Bitnine Co's P/S falls short of the mark set by its industry peers. Apparently many shareholders weren't comfortable holding on to something they believe will continue to trail the wider industry.

The Bottom Line On Bitnine Co's P/S

The southerly movements of Bitnine Co's shares means its P/S is now sitting at a pretty low level. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.

Our examination of Bitnine Co confirms that the company's revenue trends over the past three-year years are a key factor in its low price-to-sales ratio, as we suspected, given they fall short of current industry expectations. At this stage investors feel the potential for an improvement in revenue isn't great enough to justify a higher P/S ratio. Unless the recent medium-term conditions improve, they will continue to form a barrier for the share price around these levels.

We don't want to rain on the parade too much, but we did also find 4 warning signs for Bitnine Co (3 can't be ignored!) that you need to be mindful of.
