The 8.9% return this week takes Techwing's (KOSDAQ:089030) shareholders five-year gains to 355%
While Techwing, Inc. (KOSDAQ:089030) shareholders are probably generally happy, the stock hasn't had particularly good run recently, with the share price falling 13% in the last quarter. But that doesn't change the fact that the returns over the last half decade have been spectacular. In fact, during that period, the share price climbed 329%. Impressive! So it might be that some shareholders are taking profits after good performance. Only time will tell if there is still too much optimism currently reflected in the share price.
After a strong gain in the past week, it's worth seeing if longer term returns have been driven by improving fundamentals.
Techwing isn't currently profitable, so most analysts would look to revenue growth to get an idea of how fast the underlying business is growing. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. That's because fast revenue growth can be easily extrapolated to forecast profits, often of considerable size.
Over the last half decade Techwing's revenue has actually been trending down at about 6.1% per year. So it's pretty surprising to see that the share price is up 34% per year. Obviously, whatever the market is excited about, it's not a track record of revenue growth. At the risk of upsetting holders, this does suggest that hope for a better future is playing a significant role in the share price action.

What About Dividends?
As well as measuring the share price return, investors should also consider the total shareholder return (TSR). The TSR is a return calculation that accounts for the value of cash dividends (assuming that any dividend received was reinvested) and the calculated value of any discounted capital raisings and spin-offs. So for companies that pay a generous dividend, the TSR is often a lot higher than the share price return. We note that for Techwing the TSR over the last 5 years was 355%, which is better than the share price return mentioned above. And there's no prize for guessing that the dividend payments largely explain the divergence!
A Different Perspective
We're pleased to report that Techwing shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 7.2% over one year. And that does include the dividend. However, the TSR over five years, coming in at 35% per year, is even more impressive. Potential buyers might understandably feel they've missed the opportunity, but it's always possible business is still firing on all cylinders. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. To that end, you should learn about the 2 warning signs we've spotted with Techwing (including 1 which is a bit concerning) .
