NEORIGIN Co., Ltd. (KOSDAQ:094860) Stock Rockets 26% But Many Are Still Ignoring The Company
NEORIGIN Co., Ltd. (KOSDAQ:094860) shares have had a really impressive month, gaining 26% after a shaky period beforehand. Unfortunately, the gains of the last month did little to right the losses of the last year with the stock still down 16% over that time.
Although its price has surged higher, it's still not a stretch to say that NEORIGIN's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 1.2x right now seems quite "middle-of-the-road" compared to the Entertainment industry in Korea, where the median P/S ratio is around 1.6x. While this might not raise any eyebrows, if the P/S ratio is not justified investors could be missing out on a potential opportunity or ignoring looming disappointment.

How NEORIGIN Has Been Performing
With revenue growth that's exceedingly strong of late, NEORIGIN has been doing very well. The P/S is probably moderate because investors think this strong revenue growth might not be enough to outperform the broader industry in the near future. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's not quite in favour.

In order to justify its P/S ratio, NEORIGIN would need to produce growth that's similar to the industry.
Retrospectively, the last year delivered an exceptional 67% gain to the company's top line. Spectacularly, three year revenue growth has ballooned by several orders of magnitude, thanks in part to the last 12 months of revenue growth. So we can start by confirming that the company has done a tremendous job of growing revenue over that time.
This is in contrast to the rest of the industry, which is expected to grow by 14% over the next year, materially lower than the company's recent medium-term annualised growth rates.
With this information, we find it interesting that NEORIGIN is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. It may be that most investors are not convinced the company can maintain its recent growth rates.
The Final Word
Its shares have lifted substantially and now NEORIGIN's P/S is back within range of the industry median. While the price-to-sales ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of revenue expectations.
We've established that NEORIGIN currently trades on a lower than expected P/S since its recent three-year growth is higher than the wider industry forecast. It'd be fair to assume that potential risks the company faces could be the contributing factor to the lower than expected P/S. It appears some are indeed anticipating revenue instability, because the persistence of these recent medium-term conditions would normally provide a boost to the share price.
You need to take note of risks, for example - NEORIGIN has 4 warning signs (and 2 which are a bit concerning) we think you should know about.
