BYON's (KOSDAQ:032980) Shareholders Are Down 37% On Their Shares
In order to justify the effort of selecting individual stocks, it's worth striving to beat the returns from a market index fund. But its virtually certain that sometimes you will buy stocks that fall short of the market average returns. Unfortunately, that's been the case for longer term BYON Co., Ltd. (KOSDAQ:032980) shareholders, since the share price is down 37% in the last three years, falling well short of the market return of around 33%. Furthermore, it's down 11% in about a quarter. That's not much fun for holders.

BYON wasn't profitable in the last twelve months, it is unlikely we'll see a strong correlation between its share price and its earnings per share (EPS). Arguably revenue is our next best option. When a company doesn't make profits, we'd generally expect to see good revenue growth. That's because fast revenue growth can be easily extrapolated to forecast profits, often of considerable size.
Over three years, BYON grew revenue at 0.8% per year. That's not a very high growth rate considering it doesn't make profits. Indeed, the stock dropped 11% over the last three years. Shareholders will probably be hoping growth picks up soon. But the real upside for shareholders will be if the company can start generating profits.

A Different Perspective
BYON provided a TSR of 6.6% over the last twelve months. Unfortunately this falls short of the market return. But at least that's still a gain! Over five years the TSR has been a reduction of 5% per year, over five years. So this might be a sign the business has turned its fortunes around.
