Introducing Vitzro Tech (KOSDAQ:042370), The Stock That Zoomed 135% In The Last Five Years
When you buy a stock there is always a possibility that it could drop 100%. But on a lighter note, a good company can see its share price rise well over 100%. For example, the Vitzro Tech Co. Ltd (KOSDAQ:042370) share price has soared 135% in the last half decade. Most would be very happy with that. On top of that, the share price is up 34% in about a quarter. But this could be related to the strong market, which is up 25% in the last three months.

There is no denying that markets are sometimes efficient, but prices do not always reflect underlying business performance. One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement.
During the five years of share price growth, Vitzro Tech moved from a loss to profitability. That kind of transition can be an inflection point that justifies a strong share price gain, just as we have seen here. Since the company was unprofitable five years ago, but not three years ago, it's worth taking a look at the returns in the last three years, too. We can see that the Vitzro Tech share price is up 87% in the last three years. In the same period, EPS is up 0.1% per year. Notably, the EPS growth has been slower than the annualised share price gain of 23% over three years. So one can reasonably conclude the market is more enthusiastic about the stock than it was three years ago.

What About Dividends?
As well as measuring the share price return, investors should also consider the total shareholder return (TSR). The TSR is a return calculation that accounts for the value of cash dividends (assuming that any dividend received was reinvested) and the calculated value of any discounted capital raisings and spin-offs. Arguably, the TSR gives a more comprehensive picture of the return generated by a stock. In the case of Vitzro Tech, it has a TSR of 140% for the last 5 years. That exceeds its share price return that we previously mentioned. And there's no prize for guessing that the dividend payments largely explain the divergence!
A Different Perspective
It's nice to see that Vitzro Tech shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 64% over the last year. That's including the dividend. Since the one-year TSR is better than the five-year TSR (the latter coming in at 19% per year), it would seem that the stock's performance has improved in recent times. Someone with an optimistic perspective could view the recent improvement in TSR as indicating that the business itself is getting better with time. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too.
