kubell Co., Ltd. (TSE:4448) shares have continued their recent momentum with a 37% gain in the last month alone. Looking further back, the 22% rise over the last twelve months isn't too bad notwithstanding the strength over the last 30 days.

After such a large jump in price, you could be forgiven for thinking kubell is a stock not worth researching with a price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") of 3.4x, considering almost half the companies in Japan's Software industry have P/S ratios below 2x. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's as high as it is.

What Does kubell's P/S Mean For Shareholders?

kubell certainly has been doing a great job lately as it's been growing its revenue at a really rapid pace. The P/S ratio is probably high because investors think this strong revenue growth will be enough to outperform the broader industry in the near future. However, if this isn't the case, investors might get caught out paying too much for the stock.

We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on kubell's earnings, revenue and cash flow.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The High P/S Ratio?

kubell's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's expected to deliver solid growth, and importantly, perform better than the industry.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered an exceptional 37% gain to the company's top line. The strong recent performance means it was also able to grow revenue by 139% in total over the last three years. So we can start by confirming that the company has done a great job of growing revenue over that time.

When compared to the industry's one-year growth forecast of 12%, the most recent medium-term revenue trajectory is noticeably more alluring

With this information, we can see why kubell is trading at such a high P/S compared to the industry. Presumably shareholders aren't keen to offload something they believe will continue to outmanoeuvre the wider industry.

What We Can Learn From kubell's P/S?

The large bounce in kubell's shares has lifted the company's P/S handsomely. Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-sales ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.

We've established that kubell maintains its high P/S on the strength of its recent three-year growth being higher than the wider industry forecast, as expected. At this stage investors feel the potential continued revenue growth in the future is great enough to warrant an inflated P/S. Unless the recent medium-term conditions change, they will continue to provide strong support to the share price.
