Dualtap Co., Ltd.'s (TSE:3469) 27% Dip Still Leaving Some Shareholders Feeling Restless Over Its P/SRatio
Dualtap Co., Ltd. (TSE:3469) shareholders that were waiting for something to happen have been dealt a blow with a 27% share price drop in the last month. Instead of being rewarded, shareholders who have already held through the last twelve months are now sitting on a 20% share price drop.
In spite of the heavy fall in price, there still wouldn't be many who think Dualtap's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.4x is worth a mention when the median P/S in Japan's Real Estate industry is similar at about 0.8x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

What Does Dualtap's P/S Mean For Shareholders?
With revenue growth that's exceedingly strong of late, Dualtap has been doing very well. It might be that many expect the strong revenue performance to wane, which has kept the share price, and thus the P/S ratio, from rising. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's not quite in favour.
We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on Dualtap's earnings, revenue and cash flow.Do Revenue Forecasts Match The P/S Ratio?
In order to justify its P/S ratio, Dualtap would need to produce growth that's similar to the industry.
Retrospectively, the last year delivered an exceptional 47% gain to the company's top line. Despite this strong recent growth, it's still struggling to catch up as its three-year revenue frustratingly shrank by 30% overall. So unfortunately, we have to acknowledge that the company has not done a great job of growing revenues over that time.
Comparing that to the industry, which is predicted to deliver 7.0% growth in the next 12 months, the company's downward momentum based on recent medium-term revenue results is a sobering picture.
With this information, we find it concerning that Dualtap is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. Apparently many investors in the company are way less bearish than recent times would indicate and aren't willing to let go of their stock right now. There's a good chance existing shareholders are setting themselves up for future disappointment if the P/S falls to levels more in line with the recent negative growth rates.
The Final Word
Following Dualtap's share price tumble, its P/S is just clinging on to the industry median P/S. While the price-to-sales ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of revenue expectations.
The fact that Dualtap currently trades at a P/S on par with the rest of the industry is surprising to us since its recent revenues have been in decline over the medium-term, all while the industry is set to grow. Even though it matches the industry, we're uncomfortable with the current P/S ratio, as this dismal revenue performance is unlikely to support a more positive sentiment for long. Unless the recent medium-term conditions improve markedly, investors will have a hard time accepting the share price as fair value.
