Link-U Group (TSE:4446) Shareholders Will Want The ROCE Trajectory To Continue
To find a multi-bagger stock, what are the underlying trends we should look for in a business? Typically, we'll want to notice a trend of growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and alongside that, an expanding base of capital employed. Ultimately, this demonstrates that it's a business that is reinvesting profits at increasing rates of return. Speaking of which, we noticed some great changes in Link-U Group's (TSE:4446) returns on capital, so let's have a look.
What Is Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)?
For those that aren't sure what ROCE is, it measures the amount of pre-tax profits a company can generate from the capital employed in its business. The formula for this calculation on Link-U Group is:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.081 = JP¥329m ÷ (JP¥6.1b - JP¥2.0b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to April 2025).
So, Link-U Group has an ROCE of 8.1%. Ultimately, that's a low return and it under-performs the Interactive Media and Services industry average of 18%.

What The Trend Of ROCE Can Tell Us
While in absolute terms it isn't a high ROCE, it's promising to see that it has been moving in the right direction. The data shows that returns on capital have increased substantially over the last three years to 8.1%. The company is effectively making more money per dollar of capital used, and it's worth noting that the amount of capital has increased too, by 88%. So we're very much inspired by what we're seeing at Link-U Group thanks to its ability to profitably reinvest capital.
For the record though, there was a noticeable increase in the company's current liabilities over the period, so we would attribute some of the ROCE growth to that. The current liabilities has increased to 33% of total assets, so the business is now more funded by the likes of its suppliers or short-term creditors. It's worth keeping an eye on this because as the percentage of current liabilities to total assets increases, some aspects of risk also increase.
The Bottom Line On Link-U Group's ROCE
To sum it up, Link-U Group has proven it can reinvest in the business and generate higher returns on that capital employed, which is terrific. However the stock is down a substantial 83% in the last five years so there could be other areas of the business hurting its prospects. Regardless, we think the underlying fundamentals warrant this stock for further investigation.
