Here's Why We Think Trident Techlabs (NSE:TECHLABS) Is Well Worth Watching

Investors are often guided by the idea of discovering 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without any revenue, let alone profit. Sometimes these stories can cloud the minds of investors, leading them to invest with their emotions rather than on the merit of good company fundamentals. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else investors will move on and the company will wither away.

Despite being in the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, many investors still adopt a more traditional strategy; buying shares in profitable companies like Trident Techlabs (NSE:TECHLABS). Even if this company is fairly valued by the market, investors would agree that generating consistent profits will continue to provide Trident Techlabs with the means to add long-term value to shareholders.

Trident Techlabs' Improving Profits

Over the last three years, Trident Techlabs has grown earnings per share (EPS) at as impressive rate from a relatively low point, resulting in a three year percentage growth rate that isn't particularly indicative of expected future performance. Thus, it makes sense to focus on more recent growth rates, instead. Impressively, Trident Techlabs' EPS catapulted from ₹4.75 to ₹9.32, over the last year. It's a rarity to see 96% year-on-year growth like that.

It's often helpful to take a look at earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. The good news is that Trident Techlabs is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 5.3 percentage points to 27%, over the last year. That's great to see, on both counts.

Are Trident Techlabs Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

It's pleasing to see company leaders with putting their money on the line, so to speak, because it increases alignment of incentives between the people running the business, and its true owners. Trident Techlabs followers will find comfort in knowing that insiders have a significant amount of capital that aligns their best interests with the wider shareholder group. As a matter of fact, their holding is valued at ₹1.2b. This considerable investment should help drive long-term value in the business. Despite being just 4.5% of the company, the value of that investment is enough to show insiders have plenty riding on the venture.

While it's always good to see some strong conviction in the company from insiders through heavy investment, it's also important for shareholders to ask if management compensation policies are reasonable. A brief analysis of the CEO compensation suggests they are. Our analysis has discovered that the median total compensation for the CEOs of companies like Trident Techlabs with market caps between ₹17b and ₹69b is about ₹23m.

The Trident Techlabs CEO received ₹17m in compensation for the year ending March 2024. That seems pretty reasonable, especially given it's below the median for similar sized companies. CEO remuneration levels are not the most important metric for investors, but when the pay is modest, that does support enhanced alignment between the CEO and the ordinary shareholders. It can also be a sign of a culture of integrity, in a broader sense.

Does Trident Techlabs Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?

Trident Techlabs' earnings per share growth have been climbing higher at an appreciable rate. The cherry on top is that insiders own a bucket-load of shares, and the CEO pay seems really quite reasonable. The strong EPS improvement suggests the businesses is humming along. Trident Techlabs certainly ticks a few boxes, so we think it's probably well worth further consideration. Don't forget that there may still be risks.
