Insiders At Gland Pharma Sold ₹270m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness
A number of Gland Pharma Limited (NSE:GLAND) insiders sold their shares in the last year, which may have raised concerns among investors. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more beneficial than knowing whether they are selling, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Gland Pharma Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the insider, K. Raju, sold ₹27m worth of shares at a price of ₹1,800 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even slightly below the current price of ₹1,812. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. This single sale was just 45% of K. Raju's stake.

Insider Ownership
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Our data isn't picking up on much insider ownership at Gland Pharma, though insiders do hold about ₹19m worth of shares. We do note, however, it is possible insiders have an indirect interest through a private company or other corporate structure. This level of insider ownership is notably low, and not very encouraging.
So What Do The Gland Pharma Insider Transactions Indicate?
The fact that there have been no Gland Pharma insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. We don't take much encouragement from the transactions by Gland Pharma insiders. The modest level of insider ownership is, at least, some comfort. If you are like me, you may want to think about whether this company will grow or shrink.
