Are Insiders Buying Visaka Industries Limited (NSE:VISAKAIND) Stock?
It is not uncommon to see companies perform well in the years after insiders buy shares. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So shareholders might well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Visaka Industries Limited (NSE:VISAKAIND).
What Is Insider Selling?
It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.
Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But equally, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether. For example, a Harvard University study found that 'insider purchases earn abnormal returns of more than 6% per year'.

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Non-Executive Vice Chairman of the Board G. Vivekanand for ₹24m worth of shares, at about ₹241 per share. We do like to see buying, but this purchase was made at well below the current price of ₹376. While it does suggest insiders consider the stock undervalued at lower prices, this transaction doesn't tell us much about what they think of current prices.

Insider Ownership
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Visaka Industries insiders own 47% of the company, currently worth about ₹2.9b based on the recent share price. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
So What Do The Visaka Industries Insider Transactions Indicate?
The fact that there have been no Visaka Industries insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. But insiders have shown more of an appetite for the stock, over the last year.
