Who Has Been Buying Rallis India Limited (NSE:RALLIS) Shares?
We've lost count of how many times insiders have accumulated shares in a company that goes on to improve markedly. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So before you buy or sell Rallis India Limited (NSE:RALLIS), you may well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling.
What Is Insider Selling?
It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.
Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares. For example, a Harvard University study found that 'insider purchases earn abnormal returns of more than 6% per year'.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Rallis India
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by insider Anil Gupta for ₹7.1m worth of shares, at about ₹308 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being ₹291). Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock when an insider has bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price. Anil Gupta was the only individual insider to buy during the last year. Notably Anil Gupta was also the biggest seller.
Anil Gupta bought 30.03k shares over the last 12 months at an average price of ₹305. Does Rallis India Boast High Insider Ownership?
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Insiders own 11% of Rallis India shares, worth about ₹6.0b. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
So What Does This Data Suggest About Rallis India Insiders?
