Here’s What’s Happening With Returns At Career Point (NSE:CAREERP)
To find a multi-bagger stock, what are the underlying trends we should look for in a business? Ideally, a business will show two trends; firstly a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and secondly, an increasing amount of capital employed. This shows us that it's a compounding machine, able to continually reinvest its earnings back into the business and generate higher returns. Speaking of which, we noticed some great changes in Career Point's (NSE:CAREERP) returns on capital, so let's have a look.
Understanding Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)
For those that aren't sure what ROCE is, it measures the amount of pre-tax profits a company can generate from the capital employed in its business. To calculate this metric for Career Point, this is the formula:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.073 = ₹362m ÷ (₹5.5b - ₹473m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2020).
Thus, Career Point has an ROCE of 7.3%. In absolute terms, that's a low return, but it's much better than the Consumer Services industry average of 4.9%.

How Are Returns Trending?
Even though ROCE is still low in absolute terms, it's good to see it's heading in the right direction. The numbers show that in the last five years, the returns generated on capital employed have grown considerably to 7.3%. The amount of capital employed has increased too, by 44%. So we're very much inspired by what we're seeing at Career Point thanks to its ability to profitably reinvest capital.
