For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it currently lacks a track record of revenue and profit. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else investors will move on and the company will wither away.
So if this idea of high risk and high reward doesn't suit, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Foce India (NSE:FOCE). Now this is not to say that the company presents the best investment opportunity around, but profitability is a key component to success in business.

Foce India's Improving Profits
Foce India has undergone a massive growth in earnings per share over the last three years. So much so that this three year growth rate wouldn't be a fair assessment of the company's future. So it would be better to isolate the growth rate over the last year for our analysis. Outstandingly, Foce India's EPS shot from ₹13.44 to ₹25.18, over the last year. It's not often a company can achieve year-on-year growth of 87%.
Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. We note that while EBIT margins have improved from 6.1% to 11%, the company has actually reported a fall in revenue by 3.0%. That's not a good look.
The chart below shows how the company's bottom and top lines have progressed over time. To see the actual numbers, click on the chart.
Foce India isn't a huge company, given its market capitalisation of ₹2.8b. That makes it extra important to check on its balance sheet strength.
Are Foce India Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Theory would suggest that it's an encouraging sign to see high insider ownership of a company, since it ties company performance directly to the financial success of its management. So as you can imagine, the fact that Foce India insiders own a significant number of shares certainly is appealing. In fact, they own 74% of the company, so they will share in the same delights and challenges experienced by the ordinary shareholders. This should be seen as a good thing, as it means insiders have a personal interest in delivering the best outcomes for shareholders. With that sort of holding, insiders have about ₹2.1b riding on the stock, at current prices. So there's plenty there to keep them focused!
It's good to see that insiders are invested in the company, but are remuneration levels reasonable? Our quick analysis into CEO remuneration would seem to indicate they are. For companies with market capitalisations under ₹17b, like Foce India, the median CEO pay is around ₹3.6m.
The Foce India CEO received total compensation of only ₹450k in the year to March 2022. This could be considered a token amount, and indicates that the company does not need to use payment to motivate the CEO - that is often a good sign. CEO compensation is hardly the most important aspect of a company to consider, but when it's reasonable, that gives a little more confidence that leadership are looking out for shareholder interests. It can also be a sign of good governance, more generally.
Is Foce India Worth Keeping An Eye On?
Foce India's earnings have taken off in quite an impressive fashion. The sweetener is that insiders have a mountain of stock, and the CEO remuneration is quite reasonable. The drastic earnings growth indicates the business is going from strength to strength. Hopefully a trend that continues well into the future. Big growth can make big winners, so the writing on the wall tells us that Foce India is worth considering carefully. It's still necessary to consider the ever-present spectre of investment risk. We've identified 1 warning sign with Foce India , and understanding it should be part of your investment process.
Although Foce India certainly looks good, it may appeal to more investors if insiders were buying up shares. If you like to see insider buying, then this free list of growing companies that insiders are buying, could be exactly what you're looking for.
