Here's Why We Think Om Infra (NSE:OMMETALS) Is Well Worth Watching

It's only natural that many investors, especially those who are new to the game, prefer to buy shares in 'sexy' stocks with a good story, even if those businesses lose money. Unfortunately, high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson.

In contrast to all that, I prefer to spend time on companies like Om Infra (NSE:OMMETALS), which has not only revenues, but also profits. While that doesn't make the shares worth buying at any price, you can't deny that successful capitalism requires profit, eventually. In comparison, loss making companies act like a sponge for capital - but unlike such a sponge they do not always produce something when squeezed.

How Fast Is Om Infra Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

In a capitalist society capital chases profits, and that means share prices tend rise with earnings per share (EPS). So like a ray of sunshine through a gap in the clouds, improving EPS is considered a good sign. It is therefore awe-striking that Om Infra's EPS went from ₹1.40 to ₹844 in just one year. Even though that growth rate is unlikely to be repeated, that looks like a breakout improvement.

I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. Om Infra's EBIT margins have actually improved by 3.8 percentage points in the last year, to reach 14%, but, on the flip side, revenue was down 23%. That falls short of ideal.

Om Infra isn't a huge company, given its market capitalization of ₹2.3b. That makes it extra important to check on its balance sheet strength.

Are Om Infra Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Many consider high insider ownership to be a strong sign of alignment between the leaders of a company and the ordinary shareholders. So as you can imagine, the fact that Om Infra insiders own a significant number of shares certainly appeals to me. Indeed, with a collective holding of 56%, company insiders are in control and have plenty of capital behind the venture. This makes me think they will be incentivised to plan for the long term - something I like to see. With that sort of holding, insiders have about ₹1.3b riding on the stock, at current prices. That should be more than enough to keep them focussed on creating shareholder value!

Is Om Infra Worth Keeping An Eye On?

Om Infra's earnings per share have taken off like a rocket aimed right at the moon. That EPS growth certainly has my attention, and the large insider ownership only serves to further stoke my interest. At times fast EPS growth is a sign the business has reached an inflection point; and I do like those. So to my mind Om Infra is worth putting on your watchlist; after all, shareholders do well when the market underestimates fast growing companies. You still need to take note of risks, for example - Om Infra has 5 warning signs (and 1 which is concerning) we think you should know about.
